Miss Janis Lynn Otto, 60, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at home. The daughter of Arlo Wayne & Shirley Elizabeth (Van Norman) Otto, she was born on Nov. 11, 1946 in Alma. For many years, Janis lived in group and foster homes eventually coming to Greenville. When Harris Adult Foster Care Home closed, Janis chose to make her home with Faye Burhance. In recent years, Janis had worked at Burger King and more recently at Goodwill Industries. She delighted in being able to buy lunch for her friends and co-workers. She enjoyed watching television, hanging out at McDonalds, and participating in the Special Olympics and with Eight-Cap activities and outings. Janis attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville, rarely missing a Sunday morning or Wednesday evening service.
She is survived by her special friend, Jack Stine of Greenville; her chosen family, Faye Ruthruff-Burhance of Greenville, and her children, Dr. Chris & Teri Ruthruff of Ionia, Tim Ruthruff, Jean & Don Butler, and Lori Nielsen and Greg Thompson, all of Greenville; her nieces and nephews, Aaron, Heidi, Chris, Joshua, Noelle, Taylor, Cooper, Olivia, Larry, Kellie, Sara, Luke, and Kara; her co-workers at Goodwill; and her church family at St. Pauls.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, corner of N. Lafayette Street and E. Coffren Avenue, Greenville, with visitation from 6-7 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Clayton Bates, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, will officiate.
