Janice JoAnn Cannon, age 76, of rural Lakeview, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2011 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Michigan. The daughter of Frank & Ellen L. (Peterman) Weber, she was born on June 18, 1934 in Greenville and was a graduate of Greenville High School. On Dec. 10, 1960, at the First Congregational Church in Greenville, she married Lynwood C. Cannon and together they raised three daughters and enjoyed 50 years of marriage. A devoted wife and mother, Janice volunteered with her daughters school activities and with 4-H, and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan. Her greatest joy was attending all of her grandchildrens activities and she loved fishing with her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Gilbert Weber and Melvan Weber. Surviving are her husband, Lynwood Cannon of Lakeview; their daughters, Jenny & Russ Bennett of Belding, JoAnn & Dan Lay of Anna, Ohio, and Beth & Jeff Burnett of Portage; eight grandchildren, Michael & Joanna Kelly, Kristina Kelly, Zachary Lay, Alissa Kelly, Jessica Atteberry, Melynie Bennett, Brandon Bennett, and Joshua Kelly; and two great grandchildren, William Kelly and Julienne Kelly. Also surviving are a maternal aunt, Rena Edwards; three sisters-in-law, Verna Weber, Phyllis Weber, and Velma & Bob Witzel; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation is Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Rev. Dr. Paul Naumann, pastor of St. Michael Lutheran Church of Portage, will officiate and burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Langston. Envelopes for memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan will be available at the funeral home.
