Janet Kolb

Janet Louise Kolb, age 79, of Wyoming, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 1, 1944, in Benton Harbor, to Milton C. & Crystal V. Zachary. After graduating from St. Joseph HS in 1962, she held a variety of jobs including school bus driver, administrative office clerk, then working her way up to a supervisory position as well as being a claims adjuster in the insurance industry. Janet was a devoted wife, mother, sister, nana, grandma, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, traveling and hosting large family holiday dinners. A true matriarch. As a divorced mother, she raised her daughter and son. On January29, 1989, she married Gerald Kolb and spent 34 happily married years a s a blended family, together raising their 5 children. She enjoyed the many sporting events, concerts and school activities with her family In her retirement years, she loved spending time with her grandchildren making cookies, playing games and being entertained by their creative shows. Also recently becoming a great-grandmother was another happy occasion. Janet is survived by her husband, Gerald; sister, Nancy Dwyer; daughter, Susan Hart; son, Steven Smith; and from her blended family, daughter, Sara Kolb; son, Steven Kolb; son, Jonathan Kolb; grandchildren, James Tilly, Allison Plumhoff, Samantha Kolb, Katherine Kolb, J.D. Smith and Janessa Smith; and great-grandchild, Juniper Tilly. Janet was fun as she was witty along with being kind, loving, thoughtful and always ready to help or just listen. Visitation will take place from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Avenue SE, Grand Rapids. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 am on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
