James (Jim) Riley Whitcomb, age 77, of Carson City, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids. The son of John and Luella (Bradley) Whitcomb, he was born on July 5, 1938 in Portage Township. Jim was retired from landscaping and loved to play cards, build any thing, bake and go to the casino. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 53 years, Ella (Williams) Whitcomb; brothers, Marvin, John, Rick, Bob, Don, George, and Allen; and sister, Luella. Surviving are his children, Pastor Dane (Amanda) Whitcomb of Lake City, Neil (Darkus) Whitcomb of Cadillac, Missy Merren of Belding and Mindy Korstange of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Eric Chubb, Kelsey Merren, Justin Korstange, Isabelle Whitcomb, Philip Whitcomb, and Matthew Whitcomb; one great-grandson, Max Clark; sister, Beverly Bond of Ashland, WI; along with his adored nieces and nephews, Paula Mom, Linda Gallagher, Bob Whitcomb, Ray Whitcomb and Lem Whitcomb. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Pinora Township Cemetery in Reed City with Pastor Dane Whitcomb officiating, a luncheon will follow. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Jim to Hospice of Michigan, 989 Spaulding SE, Ada.
