Surrounded by loved ones, James C. Payne II, 46, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026.

James was born on September 3, 1979, to the late James C. Payne and Diana L. Payne. He went on to build a life centered around family, faith, and hard work. On September 29, 1997, James married the love of his life, Sara Payne. Together, they welcomed four beautiful children, who later blessed them with four precious grandchildren.

James had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing, or camping with friends and family. In his earlier years, he proudly drove car number 79 in demolition derbies and enduro races. James was an essential part of DENSO Manufacturing for 23 years, where he formed many lifelong friendships with colleagues. He was a Jim-of-all-trades who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In recent years, he reconnected with his Christian faith and attended Kalamazoo Community Church.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Sara Payne; his mother, Diana Payne; his children, Tiffany Payne, Megan Leaders and her husband, Billy Leaders, Amber Payne, and Carter Payne; his cherished grandchildren, Maisley Gonzalez, Reid Leaders, Ayli Payne, and Bennett Leaders; as well as several siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Payne; his grandparents, Virgil and Elaine Keifer; and his father-in-law, Bobby Susdorf.

A memorial service will be held on June 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Kalamazoo Community Church, 2435 N. 26th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
