James Richard "Mac" MacDonald, age 85, passed away on April 10, 2017 at his lake home in Gowen. The son of David and Sara (McCarthy) MacDonald, he was born on January 6, 1932 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He and his family moved to Detroit, where Mac became skilled in the tool and die industry while working at his family's business.
Mac met his wife, Janet (Nielsen), thirty years ago. He retired after 40 years of engineering and consulting at various automobile companies throughout the upper Midwest. Mac and Janet enjoyed many retirement winters at their home in Florida. Mac's hobbies included watching his son, and later his grandsons, play hockey, fishing, hunting and remodeling his and Janet's lake home. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his entire family. Mac was a huge Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Lions, and Green Bay Packers fan. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for over sixty years.
Mac is survived by his wife, Janet; his two sons, Arthur MacDonald, Edward & Sherry MacDonald; a daughter, Karen & Tom Fulwider; grandchildren, Evan, Braden, Landon, Owen, Delaney, Kristen, and Michael; a step-son, Sean & Jo Hastings; a step-daughter, Shannon & Caleb Williams, and step-grandchildren, Dana, Anja, and Sofie. His love and loyalty to his family and friends will be missed.
Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held this summer at Bass Lake in Gowen.
Arrangements were entrusted to Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville.
