James Lewis “Jim” Klinker, age 79, of Greenville, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 24, 2024 after a fall while trimming trees at his home. The son of Merton Hiram & Marcia Mary (DeKoning) Klinker, he was born on September 7, 1944 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduating from Creston High School in 1963, Jim attended Grand Rapids Junior College and later began working at Blackmer Pump-Dover Corporation, retiring as a unit assembly specialist after 38 years of service.
On June 14, 1975, in Wyoming, Michigan, he married Mary Anna (Dye) Sloop and together they owned Klinker’s Korner gas station at the M-57 and M-66 intersection for 40 years, and celebrated 49 years of marriage this year. An avid outdoorsman, Jim also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, as well as playing card games (especially Skipbo). He was a member of the Family Life Center Church of God and the United Auto Workers Local No. 828.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Mary Anna Klinker of Greenville; their children, Brent & Riz Sloop of Rockford, Robert & Kati Sloop of Vermont, and Jaime & Roger Johnson of Greenville; his grandchildren, Brady Sloop, Connor Sloop, Meredith Sloop, and Cheyenne Johnson; his twin-sister, Jean & Terry Kirton of Florida; a brother, Jerry & Mary Klinker of Florida; and a sister, Janice of Texas; a sister-in-law, Carol Oliver; special family, Linda & John Grace; several nieces and nephews; and his constant (canine) companions, Lilly and Murphy.
Memorial services are at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Family Life Center Church of God, 8683 Storey Road (M-91), Belding, with Pastor Bill Overton officiating. A luncheon will follow the ceremony. Instead of flowers, Jim would have appreciated contributions in his memory to the Mission Fund at Family Life Center Church of God.
