James Andrew Harden, age 81, of Grand Rapids passed away on October 18, 2021 under the loving care of his family and Kindred Hospice.
He was born on April 17, 1940, in Macon, Georgia.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1963.
He enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing on the Grand River, visiting the John R. Dingell Veteran Affairs office in Detroit, keeping up with current events, frequenting bars and restaurants downtown Grand Rapids with his friends, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Georgia Lamar Harden; grandfather, George Harder Sr of Bibb County Georgia; mother, Millie Lee Harden Doby; father, Frank Singleton; sister, Nancy Doby and Alice Harden; brother, Gerald Doby, nephew, Lorenzo Doby
Surviving him is his brother Larry Harden; daughters, Penny Colvin & Kenyatta Perez; grandchildren, Andrew Watson, Seth Colvin, Christopher Colvin, Zachariah Colvin; great-grandson, Zane Alexander Colvin, nieces, Tiffany Doby, Aniyah Washington, Valerie Harden & Patricia Harden; nephews, Andrew Ashley, Jerry Harden, Anthony Harden; special first cousin, Beatrice McDonald and Billy Fletcher, Aunt Thelma Cornelius, and many, many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday October 28, 2021, at Grace Christian Reformed Church, 100 Buckley St SE, Grand Rapids, with Pastor Jack Kooreman officiating.
