James Griggs

James Griggs, age 66, of Lansing, MI, passed away on June 16, 2017 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. James was born in Drew, MS to Vernella and John Griggs, on February 10, 1951. He is one of 14 siblings. He relocated to Chicago, IL at a young age, where he greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. James graduated from Simeon Career Academy in Chicago, IL and went on to receive his Bachelors in Social Science from Michigan State University in 1988. James was a dedicated employee, as he has only had three jobs in his career; Facilities Supervisor with Housing and Food Services at MSU, Custodial Supervisor with the Lansing School District, and a Supervisor at General Motors. In 2003 he was married to Pam Jenkins and they became a blended family of 9. James is survived by his wife Pam; three daugters, Carla (James) Fields , Larae Griggs, and Jamie Griggs; Bonus children, Rusty Jenkins (Laural), Haley (John) Bautista, Robert (Christy) Jenkins, and Dee Jenkins; 10 grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who loved him dearly. James always had a big personality, was a true MSU Spartan, and loved finding a good deal on antiques and vintage goods. The family of James Griggs wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Sparrow Hospital, in particular the nurses in the Intensive Care Unit on the 3rd floor. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11am at St. Stephens Community Church United Church of Christ (1007 Kimberly Dr., Lansing, MI 48912). Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11am at Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
