James Gleason

James Douglas Gleason, age 75, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at home surrounded by family. He attended the University of Missouri, and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. James was a past president of the Chicago Board of Underwriters, and the Detroit Underwriters Association. He enjoyed a career spanning 44 years in the insurance industry with Chubb Corp., and Marsh USA, serving in a variety of management positions. In his leisure time he enjoyed his family, fishing, and Civil War History. James was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth & Winifred (Reid) Gleason. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol (FitzGerald) Gleason; children, Judy (Todd) Crawford, Jeffrey (Karen), Jill (Corrie), and Jon (Christine); as well as four grandchildren, Claire, Lindsey, Amber and Sarah. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, or the American Heart Association.
