Obituary

James David Kenny, age 83, of Greenville, Michigan, formerly of Belding, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Corewell Health-Greenville Hospital. The son of Foster & Helen (Foltz) Kenny, he was born on February 5, 1943 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

On May 28, 1966, in Greenville, he married the love of his life, Marian Lynn Rasmussen, and together they raised two daughters and shared in their enjoyment of car shows and classic automobiles, NASCAR, traveling, taking in and caring for countless cats, and “feeding the animals” at their home in Greenville… especially the deer.

For 27 years, Jim worked as a claims adjuster for Allstate Insurance, and delighted in restoring and collecting classic cars and trucks, as well as attending car shows and races throughout the state and country. Amongst his classic car friends, he was lovingly referred to as “Pops”.

Jim was blessed with an additional 42 years of life when his sister, Pat, donated her own kidney for his transplant in 1984 and he and his family were always grateful for her sacrifice.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian L. Kenny on March 1, 2016; his parents and a step-father, Charles “Chuck” Selleck; a brother, Robert “Bob” Kenny; two sisters, Dorothy “Dort” Bennett and Marjorie “Marge” Orr; siblings-in-law, Betty & Fred Mann of Greenville and a granddaughter, Ashlee Sweetland.

Surviving are his daughters, Kris & Brian Nylaan, D.D.S. of Grand Rapids, and Patty & Dan Sweetland of Gowen; a granddaughter, Molly & Michael Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Bradley Murphy and Elizabeth Murphy; two sisters, Josephine “Jo” Brown, and Patricia “Pat” Currigan; siblings-in-law, Bob & Mary Rasmussen and Marie & Pete Hansen; several step-sisters and a step-brother and their families; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Christiansen’s Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville. Immediately following the visitation, Jim will lead one final classic car cruise to South Sidney Cemetery, where committal services, officiated by the Rev. David E. Hansen, Jr., will take place.
