James Coleman

James C. Coleman, age 68, of Grand Rapids, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Metro Health Hospital surrounded by family. The son of James & Hilda (Norman) Coleman, he was born on September 08, 1948 in Pontiac. James was a proud U.S. Army veteran and after the service went on to work for 38 years for Steelcase before retiring. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, swimming, messing with electronic gadgets, and he was know to always have a book in his hand to read. James was also a Seventh Day Adventist. James was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings. Surviving are his loving wife of 29 years, Deborah; step-son, Timothy Penning; two grandchildren, Daniel(Riley) Thomsen and Nathan Thomsen; two great grandchildren, Garrett and Ian; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the family. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
