James Leonard Withers, fondly known as Boomer, age 75, of Belding, Michigan, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 10, 2024 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice.
One of eight children born to Clifford Ray & Velma Louise (Carter) Withers, he was born on November 16, 1948 in Lincolnton, North Carolina. Boomer is also a Vietnam Veteran, having dutifully & honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
On June 25, 2005 in Greenville, he married Carol Jean Mosley-Harkrader, and together they enjoyed nearly 18 years of marriage until Carol passed away on June 8, 2023. He worked as a truck driver for over 50 years, was a Past Master of Woodstock Park Lodge No. 313 F&AM, and a current member of Riverside Lodge No. 266 F&AM. Other Masonic body memberships included High Twelve, the Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., York Rite Chapter Jacksonville No. 12, York Rite Commandery Damascus No. 2, and York Rite Hallmark Council No. 3, all in Jacksonville, Florida. Serving alongside his Brother Masons held some of his fondest memories.
Boomer enjoyed traveling and riding his Harley but his favorite pastime was aggravating his wife, Carol. Boomer never met a stranger and had a joke for every person he came in contact with. His humor will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. There was no length he was unwilling to go in order to get a smile from people he came in contact with, sometimes even inappropriately so, much to the dismay of his children.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Carol J. Withers; his parents; his beloved step-mom, Ann Withers; and a brother, Terry Withers.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Chris Withers (Armando) of Jacksonville, Florida, Natasha Glover (Darryl) of Palm Coast, Florida, and Marie King (Brian) of Olathe, Kansas; his grandchildren: Noah, Lukas, Ethan, Harrison, Mido, Derlande, Sienna, Sydney and Maddi; six sisters and brothers, Frances Thomas, Larry Withers (Rebecca), Rachel Mullaly, Michael Withers (Joy), Opal Luper (Billy), and Christina Molteni (Joey); siblings-in-law, Debbie & Craig Campbell of Stanton, Judy Burkett of Florida, John & Angie Mosley of Saranac, David & Brenda Mosley of Greenville, Robert Mosley of Six Lakes; and many, many nieces and nephews.
