James Bentley

September 13, 1938 — February 28, 2009

Mr. James Elmo Bentley, age 70, of Ada, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 28, 2009 at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods, Byron Center. For most of his 20-year career with the U.S. Navy, Mr. Bentley served as an air controlman aboard air craft carriers and at naval air stations. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid (pictured). While aboard the Intrepid, Jim directed the flights of many brave Navy pilots, including former P.O.W . and Presidential canidate, U.S. Senator John McCain. Honoring Mr. Bentley's wishes, cremation has taken place and graveside committal services are planned for Friday, March 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at East Nelson Cemetery near Cedar Springs.
