Mr. James Elmo Bentley, age 70, of Ada, passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 28, 2009 at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods, Byron Center. For most of his 20-year career with the U.S. Navy, Mr. Bentley served as an air controlman aboard air craft carriers and at naval air stations.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid (pictured). While aboard the Intrepid, Jim directed the flights of many brave Navy pilots, including former P.O.W . and Presidential canidate, U.S. Senator John McCain.
Honoring Mr. Bentley's wishes, cremation has taken place and graveside committal services are planned for Friday, March 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at East Nelson Cemetery near Cedar Springs.
