Jacob Winters

Jacob Patrick "Bucky" Winters, age 37 of Greenville, formerly of Sidney, passed away at home on Saturday, February 11, 2023. The youngest child of Neil Patrick & Wendy Kay (Silverthorne) Winters, he was born on January 31, 1986 in Greenville. Jacob lit the world with his kindness and giving nature. Although he was not outgoing by nature, one would not know that as he would engage anyone in conversation and rapidly show how genuinely interested, he was in that conversation. He showed an interest in learning about each person he encountered and never monopolized a conversation, but would slowly draw a person out with his heartfelt questions and sincere interest. He was loving by nature, but hid it behind a facade of reservation. Most of Jacob's school career was spent at Central Montcalm Public Schools, until transferring to Lakeview just prior to his senior year. Jacob graduated in 2004 from Lakeview High School and at school, he was the class clown...a jokester who would do anything for a laugh. He was kind and respectful to all which made him friends with people older, people younger, and people from all walks of life. He loved sports and played baseball, basketball, and golf. His niece and his nephews were beneficiaries of this love as he was always encouraging them in their sports endeavors. He was an avid fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Lions. Jacob was a hard worker and could often be counted on to work overtime. He took pride in his work. He had a love of rap music and he collected Nike shoes and hats. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Markis & Lucille Winters and Ethan & Ruth Silverthorne; and three cousins, Tristan Boni, Kinsley Weaver, and Maddox Silverthorne. Jacob is survived and deeply missed by his parents, Neil & Wendy Winters; his two sisters, Aimee & Paul Johnson, and Ashley & Nathan Winters-Horton; his nephews, Cohen Winters-Horton, Andrew Winters-Horton, Keaton Johnson, and Ashton Johnson; and one special niece, Lucille Winters-Horton. Also surviving are his uncles and aunts, Jeff & Linda Winters, Dwight & Doreen Williams, Terry & Susan Russell, Mary Boni, Mark & Tricia Winters, Joe & Linda Winters, Ethan & Debbie Silverthorne, and Steve & Gail Maag; and numerous cousins and friends. A private celebration of life will be held at Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, with the Rev. Jeff Williams, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Invited relatives are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team attire in remembrance of Jacob (especially U of M or Detroit Lions).
