John Robert "Jack" Skivington, age 71, of Greenville, passed away Saturday morning, January 26, 2013 at his home under the loving care of his family and Faith Hospice.
The son of William & Mary Lou (Coulborn) Skivington, he was born on July 6, 1941 in Long Island, New York, and earned his Master of Arts degree from West Michigan University. On November 25, 1977, in Belding, he married Mary Geisen-Loper and together they enjoyed over 35 years of marriage.
For 36 years, Mr. Skivington was an educator with Belding Area Schools, teaching social studies at the high school and middle school. In addition, he coached softball, baseball, basketball, and golf and had announced at football and basketball games, as well as volunteering at many school related activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Patricia Yonker. Surviving are his wife, Mary Skivington of Greenville; two sons, Richard & Jenifer Skivington, and Michael & Carol Skivington, all of Texas; two daughters, Denise & Darren Jones of Greenville, and Caryn & Jeremy Smith of Belding; his grandchildren, Andrew, Amanda, Claire, Spencer, Madisyn, Tyler, Logan, Ethen, Wyatt, Bentley, and Noah; a sister, Margaret Latora of Portage; and many nieces and nephews.
