Howard Van Till, age 85, of Grand Rapids, MI went home to the stars on July 31, 2024.
Howard was a tremendous husband, brother, father, and "Papa." Howard made an indelible mark on the lives that he touched through his teaching, writing, and heartfelt conversations. Howard was a professor emeritus of Calvin College (University) for 31 years, as well as a speaker and author on issues of science and religion.
Van Till was one of the founding members of the International Society for Science and Religion. He was a member of professional societies such as the American Astronomical Society and American Scientific Affiliation, and advisory board member for the John Templeton Foundation.
Howard and Betty created a scholarship in Howard's name for students at Calvin University pursuing degrees in physics and biological sciences.
Howard has authored numerous books and chapters including: The Fourth Day, Portraits of Creation, Three Views on Creation and Evolution, and Science Held Hostage.
Howard is survived by his wife, Betty; his four children, Steve (Robin), Roger (Mary), Nancy, and MaryBeth (Scott); eight grandchildren, Cailee (Steve) Gonzalez, Liz (Ryan) Wilson, Anne Sedore, Alex (Chuy) Zafiro, Erik Van Till, Emily (Chris) Evers, Jake (Gladys) Evers and Shaelyn (Chad) Evers; and 5 great-grandchildren, Ayden, Austin, Calixto, Ellie and Oliver.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 3:00 pm at WaterView of Breton Woods; 2500 Breton Woods Drive SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512.
