Howard "Mike" Murle Griffith III, age 67, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 19, 2024. Born on January 19, 1957, in Lansing, Michigan, Mike lived a life marked by dedication, humor, and a love for the outdoors. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Howard Griffith II; his mother, Jeraldine VanOrden (Porter); and his siblings, Ronald Griffith, Donald Warner, Bonnie Davis (Griffith), and nephew Ronnie Griffith. He is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Jane Griffith (Freer). Mike leaves behind a large and loving family, including his children, Zachary Griffith (Kristi), Kassandra Abbott (Alex), Howard Griffith (Dawn), Stacey Comstock (Darin), Amber Bazan (Robert), Emily Magnussen (Andrew), Ashley Terry, Andrew Griffith, and Michelle Pacheco (Andrew). He was also a cherished grandfather to Allen, Josh, Alexis, Teressa, Lindsay, Kelsey, Morgan, Alexandrea, Evelynn, Darin, Madelyn, Noelle, and Freya, and a proud great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren. Mike’s career as an independent contractor allowed him to travel across the United States, where he specialized in repairing manufactured homes. He had a passion for antiquing, camping, and hunting, reflecting his deep appreciation for the outdoors. His humor, characterized by his signature dad jokes, brought joy to those around him. Mike was also committed to supporting his wife’s nonprofit work, embodying a spirit of generosity and service. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date, and details will be provided to family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to a local hospice of your choice or Alternative Pathways in honor of Mike’s memory. Mike will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
