Homer “Chuck” Charles Elliott, age 85, of Zeeland (formerly of Flushing), Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at his home on Monday, September 30, 2024. He was born December 13th, 1938, in Flushing, Michigan. Chuck graduated from Flushing High School with the class of 1957. He went on to study Social Studies and Education at Fort Wayne Bible College. He earned his Master's Degree in Education at Eastern Michigan University. Chuck married Carol Lynn Alger on July 8, 1960 in Flint, Michigan. Together they raised their 3 children.
Chuck worked over 30 years as the Community Education Director for the Flushing Community Schools. He served as a Deacon at the Flushing First Baptist Church as well as Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Florida where he also taught Sunday School. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed travel, reading and studying the Bible, doing puzzles and spending time with his friends and family. He was recognized as the first Educator of the Year in 1986 at Flushing Community Schools. Chuck had great enjoyment in his many years of involvement within the community and he was recognized by the United Way with a Certificate of Appreciation.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol Elliott; children, Tammy (Harry) Gill, Steven (Michelle), and Cheryl (Duane) Nykamp; grandchildren, Rebecca, Joel, Derek, Ben, Katie, Elliott, Kyle, Tyler, Emily Anne, Lindsey, Emily Mae, Courtney, and Ryan; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Myrtis; brother, Roy; sisters, Doris and Arlene; and granddaughter, Carrie.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Corewell Health Hospice for their support and care near the end of Chuck’s life which allowed him to stay at home like he wanted to.
