Higinio Rangel, age 88, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 11, 1933, in Laredo, Texas, to Eleuterio & Tomasa (Medina) Rangel. He married Lucinda Trevino on May 30, 1964, in East Chicago, Indiana. She preceded in death on March 1, 2018. Higinio proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his children, Melinda & Pete Torres, Jaime Rangel, Anissa Rangel, and Blanca & Randy Awrey; grandchildren, Christopher Torres, and Alex Awrey; great-granddaughter, Savannah Jo; siblings, Jesus Rangel, Maria Elena Trevino and Micaela Cazares; sister-in-law, Celia Rangel; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucinda Rangel; daughter, Veronica Rangel; siblings, Manuel Rangel, Guadalupe (Elaine) Rangel, Meliton (Anna) Rangel; sister-in-law, Alicia Rangel; and brothers-in-law, Guadalupe Trevino & Roberto Cazares. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, where Higinio will be laid to rest next to his wife. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, (616) 452-3006, honored providers of Veterans Funeral Care.
