Herbert Vanvleet

Herbert Leonard VanVleet, age 79, of Kentwood, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 surrounded by family. The son of Harry & Leona (Osmund) VanVleet, he was born on November 11, 1936 in Grand Rapids. Herbert had a passion for fishing, helping others, playing 3 digit lottery, his harmonica, but more then anything making people laugh and telling funny stories. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, Russ, Roger, and Chuck; and sister, Ruth. Surviving are his children, Cathy DeWitt and Jack Debruyn, Diane VanVleet, Jim VanVleet, and Scot (Lisa) VanVleet; sister, Carolyn (Ronnie) Ecker; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; as well as long time friend, Joe Blair. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Living Hope Community Church, 2391 Hillside Dr. N.W. (off of Alpine Avenue), Grand Rapids. Private entombment will take place in the mausoleum at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Grand Rapids. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
