Helmuth Schwili

Helmuth Arsen Schwili, age 74, of Kalamazoo, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at home under the loving care of his family and hospice. He was born January 30, 1948, in Ansbach, Germany, the son of Arsen and Marie (Zeil) Schwili. Survivors include his wife, Pamela; children, Brian (Angie) Schwili, Angela Freeman and Melissa Russo; grandchildren, Shane (Alyssa) Schwili, Brandon Schwili, Jillian Howard, Joshua Howard, Jocelynn Bray and Aiyana Freeman; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Claire Schwili; siblings, Karen Aangle and Ola Schwili; aunt, Dianne Zeil; several nieces and nephews; pets, Marie (dog), Junior and Snowball (cats) and Sundance (bird) He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ricky Bender and an uncle, Unc. Helmuth graduated from Comstock High in 1966. He married Pam on February 21, 1997. Helmuth retired about 15 years ago from Michigan Carpenters and decided to make a career change. He started his training as a professional gambler and enjoyed his time at work. He spent many years of "Thursday Nite Hot Shots," golfing with his friends. He loved to watch all sport events on tv and was a big fan of all Detroit and Michigan teams, both professional and college. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren who say "he was the best Opa ever." He loved traveling with his wife to Vegas (few times), Mexico, Hawaii, and Mackinaw Island. Helmuth loved his pets and enjoyed all animals. He always enjoyed a good joke and many have said that Helm was a good friend to have. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 929 E Centre Ave, Portage, MI.
