Hannah Pedersen

Hannah Pedersen, age 33, of Grandville, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, at home.

Hannah was born July 19, 1992 in Holland, Michigan, a daughter of Joseph Pedersen and Lisa Mytton. She met the love of her life, Alex Coyne in November 2019. She is survived by her partner of six years, Alex Coyne; her parents, Lisa Mytton of Allegan, MI and Joseph Pedersen of Hamilton, MI; one sister, Shelby Pedersen of Hudsonville, MI; a brother, Ian Pedersen, and her nephew, Wesley. She also leaves behind her two cats, Khaleesi and Dragon, and her Blue Tongue Skink, Vlad.

Hannah graduated high school in 2010 from Black River Academy in Holland, Michigan. In 2008-2009, she chose to participate in a rotary exchange program and lived for one year in Tulancingo, Mexico. While abroad, she became fluent in Spanish, learned to appreciate Mexican food and culture, and gained immense trust and confidence in herself. She continued her education at Grand Valley State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Printmaking in 2014.

For several years, art became a weekend business while Hannah vended at local craft markets or Pride events. In 2022, she was offered a tattoo apprenticeship at a shop in Grand Rapids and jumped at the chance. While at her apprenticeship, she was introduced to Rowan, her tattoo artist peer, and eventual best friend and co-owner. Hannah's career as a tattoo artist took off quickly due to her warm and welcoming personality, attention to detail, and skill with several art styles. By September 2023, Hannah and Rowan broke off to open their own studio, Raven's Rookery. Their mission is on a queer, accessibility-focused space for appointment only works. Hannah worked alongside Rowan as business partners and friends until her retirement in February 2025 due to cancer-related limitations. Raven's Rookery remains open and honors her memory to this day.

Hannah also had an affinity for collecting community and making friends wherever she went. She had a fierce sense of justice and a passion for local advocacy. She attended protests and fundraisers every year, focusing on antiracism and queer areas. Once she opened Raven's Rookery, Hannah began offering free reconstructive tattoos for individuals with surgical scars or additional gender-affirming tattoo work. She was committed to making her tattoo business trauma informed and truly wanted to do good with the skills that she had. Outside of tattooing, Hannah volunteered on the board of Inclusive Ottawa County as their Treasurer from 2023-2025. She would also donate her translation services to individuals or non-profits in the area free of charge.

Hannah was artsy and nerdy to her core. She had a fierce passion for art and was always creating in some way, shape, or form. Drawing (digital art), printmaking, and tattooing were her passion, but she also dabbled in crochet, cross-stitch, perler beads, ceramics, and cosplay. When she wasn't creating, she loved to watch movies and TV shows (the cringier the better), build Lego sets, play video games, and assemble puzzles. Together, Hannah and Alex have a physical media collection of 437 movies and TV shows, and a closet overflowing with projects in various stages of completion.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Friday, May 1 from 12 - 2 PM at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49548. Please come as you are -- no dress code. 

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking individuals to donate money to the following organizations in honor of Hannah's memory: Gilda's Club Grand Rapids chapter, Inclusive Ottawa County, and Harbor Humane Society.
