Guy Vansyckle

Guy Leon VanSyckle, age 66, of Big Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. He was born December 10, 1956, in Big Rapids, MI, to the late Henry and Carol (Hudson) VanSyckle. Guy graduated from Big Rapids High School with the class of 1974, and later from Ferris State University in1987. Guy worked at Wolverine Worldwide for 7 years and moved onto the Back Room Decorating Center for 11 years before starting his own painting contracting company. Guy enjoyed men's softball, serving as a BRMSA board member and treasurer. Guy also enjoyed golf and played in the Falcon Head (Winters Creek) golf leagues for many years. He had a passion for drag racing and attended his first race in 1974. After years of spectating and shooting pictures from the stands, the internet grew to know him as the PhotoGuy and gave Guy his big break. He was a contributing photographer to competitionplus.com. and they placed him on the ballot for "Photographer of the Year". Guy was to be credentialed with the NHRA and IHRA. The success Guy achieved within the drag racing community was a long time coming and was a source of great pride to him. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Zelma Hudson; parents, Henry and Carol; and brother, Kevin VanSyckle all of Big Rapids. Guy is survived by his niece, Shalyn VanSyckle of Sparta; nephews, Sean (Katie) VanSyckle of Eagle and Shane (Kara) VanSyckle of Greenville; and great friends, Brian (Beth) Ridenour and Kay (Mark) Maciver of Big Rapids. Per Guy's wishes cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held at this time.
