Gordon Ward, Sr., age 89, of Greenville, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 5, 2009 at his home. The son of Charles and Ruth Blanding Ward, he was born on August 20, 1920 in Grattan Township.
Gordon was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II and was a member of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101. He retired from Federal Mogul after 40 years of service. As an avid golfer, Gordon was a member of the Great Lakes Senior Golf Association.
Gordon was preceded by his parents; his brother, Howard Ward; sisters, Norma Kain and Eleanor Case; 1st wife, Victora (Nelson) Ward, 2nd wife, Maxine (Thomas) Ward; son in law, David Allen and granddaughter, Jamie Allen and an infant grandson Ward.
Surviving are his wife of twenty years, Elaine (Nienhuis) Ward; his children, Linda and Richard Petersen of Gowen, Gordon Ward Jr. of Greenville, Jackie and Don Korson of Gowen, Christine Allen of Greenville and Bill and Sandy Ward of Jenison; his grandchildren, Rod Kennedy, Roger Kennedy, Shayne Ward, Steve Ward, Stephanie Korson, Amy Korson, Jarrod Korson, Chad Allen, Mandy Allen, Travis Ward, Ashley Ward, and Max Ward; step-grandchildren, Zach Hillman, Heather Hillman, Jessica Ackley, Peter Ackley, Allyssa Ackley, Elly Ackley and Alex Arnold; and 17 great grandchildren.
Visitation is Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Greenville. where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church will officiate with burial following at Oakfield Township Cemetery. Military honors, rendered by the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101, will conclude the ceremonies. Envelopes for memorial contributions to either Spectrum Health Hospice or the American Heart Association will be available at the funeral home.
