Gerald Carbaugh

Rev. Dr. Gerald D. Carbaugh, 96, departed for his eternal home in heaven on Monday, March 6, 2023. He had lived with his daughter for the last 6 years in Jenison, Michigan and after a short illness passed peacefully under Hospice care. Born January 21, 1927 on South Mountain, PA. He was the son of the late Charles Edward and Stella Mae Carbaugh. Rev. Carbaugh was a graduate of Quincy High School with the class of 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In May of 2000, he received his honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Antietam Bible Seminary. On April 11, 1947 he married Pauline Rexrode. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage before her death in 1994. During this time they followed his ministry from Pennsylvania to various towns in West Virginia, before settling in Hagerstown, Maryland. On May 25, 1996 he married Mary E Kauffman and moved back to his roots on South Mountain, where they lived until her death in 2018. He pastored churches in Maryland and West Virginia for 40 years. On April 30, 1992 he retired from Hagerstown Bible Church after pastoring for 30 years. Since his retirement, he conducted revival services, pulpit supply, teaching at Antietam Bible College and Seminary, and conducted Bible Study at Penn State Mont Alto Campus. He was co-founder of the Fellowship of Bible Churches and served on various boards as president. He was a director with the World-Wide European Fellowship, participated in many conferences, traveled to Europe, East Africa, Mexico, and Jamaica for missions. He served on the Board of Directors at Antietam Bible College Seminary and Graduate School in Hagerstown. He was a co-founder of the Tri-State Ministers Fellowship. He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Paul) Leidig of Jenison, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Carbaugh of Bluffton, SC; step-daughter, Deborah Kauffman; granddaughters, Tara Carbaugh of Bluffton, SC and Jennifer (Jesse) Singer of Aurora, IL; grandson, Jonathan (Karly) Leidig of Hudsonville, MI; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; brothers, Robert, Harold, and Edward Carbaugh; sister, Leota Gossert; son, Jerry Carbaugh; and great-grandson, Josiah Singer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse or Spectrum Health Hospice, Grand Rapids, MI. He will be laid to rest at Strang's Cemetery on South Mountain, PA with a family graveside service at a later date.
