George Curtis Thomsen, 71, of Sidney, passed away Tuesday morning, October 20, 2020 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The son of George Henry & Ilene Ruth (Morgan) Thomsen, he was born on October 29, 1948 in Sheridan.
George had worked as a tool and die maker at Master Unit Die in Greenville and Rapid Die & Engineering in Grand Rapids, but his true passion was farming. He also enjoyed fishing (especially with his brother), as well as gardening and golfing. In his youth, George was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sidney and in more recent years had attended the First Congregational Church in Stanton.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his two sons, Shad Thomsen & Jennifer Bashore of Turk Lake, and Shaun & Stephen Thomsen of Greenville; two grandchildren, Kelsey Knefely and Hayden Knefely, both at home; a brother, Dennis & Jean Thomsen of Rockford; a sister, Kathy & Jeff Brockdorf of Escanaba; his former wife and mother of his sons, Sue Thomsen of Turk Lake; his companion, Britt Bentz of Grand Haven; five nephews and a niece, Trever Thomsen, Jared Thomsen, Luke Brockdorf, Zach Brockdorf, Matt Brockdorf, and Molly Brockdorf; and several cousins.
Visitation with the family is from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions for the wishes of the family will be available. (Guests are reminded to be considerate of others by wearing masks and practicing social distancing.) Burial will take place privately at North Sidney Cemetery.
