George Thomas

George Thomas, age 90, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Monday September 14, 2020. George was born on September 24, 1929, in Grand Rapids Michigan to Louis and Zella (Nassif) Thomas. George was a kind and caring man who loved helping others more than himself. George was an entrepreneur who wore many hats after returning home from the Army, from owning a restaurant, to taxi driving during his early years. Then, later, volunteering for Meals On Wheels, giving his free time helping the needy. He loved horses and was passionate about horse racing, even owning two horses at one time, and training many others. George also loved playing cards, horse tracks, and casinos, at one time some claiming him to be the best card player in Michigan. George is survived by his four children George J Thomas Jr., Susan Hahs, Joseph Thomas and Laurie (Timothy McBride) Ellis; three grandchildren Kristina (Matt) Finney, John Witte and Christopher (Kayla) Witte; and three great grandchildren Thomas Whitley, Rylan Finney, and Grayson Witte. George is preceded in death by his wife Betty Lou Thomas, both of his parents and his daughter Debra L Thomas.
