George Nicholson

George Nicholson, Sr., age 64, of Sheridan, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 15, 2011 following a brief battle with cancer. The son of George J. & Margie (Philo) Nicholson, he was born on August 2, 1947 in Alma. On June 17, 1967, he married Janet Marie Rogers and together they raised five children and enjoyed 44 years of marriage. George loved the Lord, foremost, as well as spending time with his family. He was a long time member of Beth Haven Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, and helped lead Junior Church. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, rock hunting, antiques, and searching for treasures with his metal detector. For 21 years, George worked as a platemaker at Vertis Printing in Greenville. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his wife, Janet Nicholson of Sheridan; his mother, Margie Skeen; his step-father, James Skeen, both of Breckenridge; five children, George (Amy) Nicholson Jr. of Greenville, Tim (Ginny) Nicholson, Ronda (David) Bradley, all of Stanton, Heather (John) Snyder of Greenville, and Jodie (Joel) Mishler of Delta, Ohio; his grandchildren, Sarah, Ruth, George Andrew, and Naomi Nicholson, Cory, Roxanne, and Kami Nicholson, D.J., Kayla, Abbey, Brooklyn, and Spencer Bradley, Carlee, Hailey, and Cody Snyder; his siblings, Jim (Elvira) Nicholson of Virginia, Dave Nicholson of Lake Saint Helen, Terry (Carol) Nicholson of Midland, Sue (Ray) Brown of Breckenridge, Lynn (Sonny Rowland) Tuck of Wynn, and Dennis (Paula) Nicholson of Breckenridge; three step-sisters, Lori (Jerry) Chvojka of Breckenridge, Julie (Dan) Steffenhagen of Wheeler, and Dana Skeen of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; siblings-in-law, Mary Jenison of Stanton, Gary Rogers of Edmore, Ron (Diane) Rogers of Florida, Linda (Dave) Beard of Arizona, Mona (Clifford) Rausch of Alma, Gerald OBoyle, Dale Borton of Florida, and Jenny Lynn Rogers of Owosso; special friends, Dennis & Peggy Graham of McBride; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions to Beth Haven Baptist Church will be available. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Beth Haven Baptist Church, 1158 W. Carson City Road (M-57 near Brown Road), Sheridan, with Pastor Kevin Crowell officiating.
