Kostakis, age 89, of Kalamazoo, a proud U.S. Coast Guard veteran, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 . The son of Peter & Demetra (Skoubes) Kostakis, he was born on July 7, 1927 in Kalamazoo. George was a Police Officer for the Battle Creek Police Department, and later retired from the Portage Police Department after 14 years. Private Committal services, with military honors, will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Honoring his wishes cremation will take place.
