George Keeler

February 22, 1938 — July 10, 2017

George Keeler, 79, passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2017 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. George was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Larry Keeler, a sister-in-law Pam Jackson Baldwin, and two brother-in -laws Donald Lipp and Harry Knipe. George is survived by his wife of 49 years, Laura (Jackson) Keeler; children, Jon & Janice Keeler, and Rod & Julie (Keeler) Sutherlund; five grandchildren, Katie (22), Mady (19), Travis (14), Ryan (11), and Carly (10). Also surviving are a sister Marlene (Keeler) Lipp; sisters-in-law, Judy (Keeler) & Hank Van Eeuwen, and Linda (Jackson) Knipe; as well as many family and friends. George served four years in the U.S. Air Force after high school. After working for four years for Western Union he spent his career with IBM as an Advanced Customer Engineer, retiring after 29 years of service. George enjoyed doing handyman projects, spending time with his grandchildren and especially going to their games. He also enjoyed playing petanque in Sebring, Florida and crossword puzzles. Please join the family for visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 11 a.m. until time of memorial services at 12:00 Noon on Friday at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Ave. S.E. at 36th St., Grand Rapids, (one block west of Eastern Ave). Pastor Jack Keeler will officiate. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to Spectrum Hospice for the wonderful care they provided or American Diabetes Association in honor of his wife and grandson Travis.
