George Betser

May 19, 1922 — April 29, 2013

George Robert Betser, Sr., age 90, of Greenville, passed away late Monday evening, April 29, 2013 at Spectrum Health-Kelsey Hospital in Lakeview. The son of B.L. & Florence (Croad) Betser, he was born on May 19, 1922 in Lakeview. On Dec. 20, 1941, in Michigan Center, he married Reva Klingensmith and together they enjoyed over 71 years of marriage. A decorated combat veteran of World War II, George served with the U.S. Army's 411th Infantry in an anti-tank company in the Rhineland and Central Europe theatres. Following the war, he returned home and worked as a repairman at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company, where he was a proud member of UAW Local 137. He retired in 1985 after 37 years of service. A man of many talents, he enjoyed buying, repairing, and selling used cars, as well as hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wayne Betser, Wes Betser, and Kenneth Betser; and two sisters, Vivian Nichols and Pauline Nisonger. Surviving are his wife, Reva Betser of Greenville; their three sons, George Betser, Jr., Ron & Missy Betser, all of Greenville, and Steven & Cheryl Betser of Six Lakes; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Honoring his wishes, private family services were held at Sheridan Cemetery with military honors rendered by the U.S. Army. Instead of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in memory of George to the Wounded Warrior Project (which assists combat wounded veterans).
