Geneva Vanhouten

Geneva Grace VanHouten, age 66, of Crystal, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The daughter of Glenn Maxon & Rosemond Griffith, she was born on July 13, 1956 in Pontiac, Michigan. For 18 years, Geneva worked at Masonic Pathways (formerly the Michigan Masonic Home) in Alma as a Nurse Assistant and enjoyed spending time with her family. On June 4, 1983 she married Robert Lee VanHouten and together they enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Maxon; her mother Rosemond Griffith; and three brothers, Francis Maxon, Herman Maxon, and Jeffrey Maxon. Surviving are her husband, Robert L. "Bob" VanHouten of Crystal; her two sons, Joey Maxon of Logansport, Indiana and Martin Swan of Greenville, Michigan; her daughter Rachel (Daniel) Mesyn of Caledonia, Michigan; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; her brother, Philip Maxon; and many nieces and nephews. Geneva was known for her strength, her willingness to help those in need, and her genuine nature that blessed all who knew her. Honoring Geneva's wishes, no services are planned at this time.
