Gaylon "Mac" McKinney, age 91, a former resident of St. Clair Shores and Warren, Michigan, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
The son of Sam & Dovie (Williams) McKinney, he was born on September 13, 1924 in Clinton, Arkansas.

He is survived by his sons, Gregory McKinney, Laurence (Teri) McKinney, Jeffrey McKinney, and Joel (Kim) McKinney; sister, Betty (Williams) McKinney; niece, Sandra McKinney; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Mr. McKinney is preceded in passing by the mother of his children, Gloria (Pasternak) McKinney; his youngest son, Robert Shannon; brothers, Waylon McKinney, and Sam "Blackie" McKinney; and cousin, J.C. Williams.
Gaylon's military training began as a teenager. He enlisted in the United States Navy 1943-1946, during WWII as Fireman, First Class. He was Honorably Discharged with Medals of Honor for his service to our country during wartime. The years following found Mr. McKinney's career expertise as an auto mechanic for General Motors until his retirement.
A committal service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 11:30 a.m.
