Gayla Claire Hathcock, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, died peacefully surrounded by her closest loved ones on Sunday, March 26, 2023 in Grand Rapids, MI. at the age of 69. Gayla was born on January 28, 1954, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Jack and Rita Hathcock. She graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1976, with a Bachelors of Business Administration.
Gayla gave birth to her beloved son, Anthony in 1988 and enjoyed working for many years for Tom and Greg Brown Homes. Gayla's Catholic faith was especially important to her and she enjoyed being involved with St Benedict's Catholic Church where she had many cherished friends. Gayla was active in her community, serving as secretary of the Shawnee Home Builders Association, participating in ACTS at St Benedict's and hosting a faith journey group in her home.
In 2020, Gayla moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to live her final years with her son. Gayla excelled at propping up her loved ones and supporting them through the passions and difficulties of their lives. She could connect with anyone and she made it her mission to improve the lives of others. She will be deeply missed by so many.
Gayla is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Kelsey Hathcock of Grand Rapids, Michigan; siblings, Pat (Mary) Hathcock of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mike (Rena) Hathcock of McLoud, Oklahoma, Sandra (Jimmy) Thompson of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Rita Hathcock of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family members.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 632 N. Kickapoo Avenue, Shawnee, OK 74801. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gayla's life.
