Gary William Hansen, age 77, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The son of Norman & Eileen Dorothy (Richardson) Hansen, he was born on January 8, 1945 in Belding.
Gary retired after 33 years of service from the former Electrolux Home Products in Greenville where he worked as an industrial electrician. Gary enjoyed nothing more than getting in his pickup truck and hitting the road. He was notorious for jumping in his truck and driving to Texas or Arizona or anywhere out west on a whim. He truly loved the road and Texas was his second home. He was born a century too late because he was a cowboy at heart.
Gary also loved to putter in his "Puttershop". He could build, fix or restore anything mechanical or electrical. He was a great welder and a good carpenter. He really liked getting his hands dirty on a project.
Gary also liked drinking coffee and visiting with his friends, of which he had many, but none closer than Terry Richardson, Charlie Echter and Officer Jamie Sorsen, lifelong friends all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Louise (Mulick) Hansen; brother-in-law, Ed Mulick; and his son-in-law, James Chaffin.
Surviving are his children, Tammy Chaffin of Greenville, and Brian Hansen of Saranac; step-children, Eva & Randy Cairns, Kenneth & Joanne Cogswell; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; siblings-in-law, Paula & Mike Grinwis, and Garry & Mary Louise Mulick; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville, (616) 754-5638.
