Gary Allen Cook, age 76, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 in the emergency room of Corewell Health Greenville Hospital. The son of Lynn & Genvie Fern (Pedersen) Cook, he was born on October 19, 1947 in Brown City, Michigan. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Gary served during the Vietnam War at U.S. Naval Stations in both Guantanamo Bay (Cuba) and Norfolk, Virginia and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
A graduate of Lakeview High School, Gary also earned three associates' degrees and worked as a welder at the former Electrolux Home Products plant in Greenville, retiring after 32 years of service in 2005. On March 13, 1989, in Greenville, he married Deborah Lynn "Deb" Buckmaster and together they enjoyed 34 years of marriage. He was a devoted Detroit Tigers baseball fan, enjoyed golfing, and was a member of UAW Local 137.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Lynn Cook; his father-in-law, Willard Buckmaster; and two brothers-in-law, Daniel Buckmaster and Darrell Lee Buckmaster.
Surviving are his wife, Deb Cook; two daughters, Lori Cook & Steve Haynes, and Kimberly & Troy Salinas; three grandchildren, Christa & Justin Rood, Tyler Salinas, and Sydney Salinas; two great-grandchildren, Lainey Mae Rood and Zeke Salinas; a sister, Kay Lynn Cook & Mary Faria; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Buckmaster; siblings-in-law, Donald & Sue Buckmaster, Doug Buckmaster, and Bonnie Buckmaster; and many nieces and nephews.
