Gail Merlington

Gail Louise Merlington, age 77, of Cedar Springs, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 22, 2021 under the loving care of her family and Kindred Hospice. The daughter of Romey & Kathryn (Terrell) Champlin, she was born on August 14, 1943 in Sparta and was a graduate of Cedar Springs High School. She then attended cosmetology school to become a hairdresser. Gail could work magic with her hands, creating some of the most beautiful and elegant hair designs. Gail had an abundance of loyal clients that she had seen regularly for over the span of 55 years. On March 30, 1963, in Cedar Springs, she married Herbert Leroy Merlington and together they began their journey of 58 years, building their family and making many memories including spending time at the race track with many nights in the motorhome, vacations to Florida, and attending sporting events. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Bonnie. Surviving are her husband, Herb Merlington; their children; Robert Merlington, Todd & Laura Merlington, Mechelle Merlington; grandchildren, Justin & Jackie Slocum, Jonathon Slocum, Cody Slocum, Frazier Firovich, Tyler & Courtney Merlington, Alexis & Cody Rambo, Alayna Merlington; great-grandchildren, Evan Louise Slocum, Camryn Kenni Slocum, and Portlynn Rambo; a brother, Robert & Mary Champlin; a sister, Sue & Ron Magoon; a brother-in-law, Jim Lapaugh; a sister-in-law; Bernadine & Kendal Deatsman; many nieces, nephews, friends, and family; and her special companion who never left her lap, her dog Trig. Honoring Gail's wishes, no services will be held and final interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support.
