Gail Goodgasell

Gail Irene Goodgasell, age 80, of Gowen, passed away Tuesday evening, January 28, 2025 at her home under the loving care of her family and Corewell Health Hospice. The daughter of Foster William & Esther Lenore (Morris) Wagner, she was born on December 28, 1944 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On July 10, 1969, in Grand Rapids, she married Joseph Grayling Goodgasell and together they raised two children and enjoyed 55 years of marriage. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, whose faith was central to her life, Gail also enjoyed gardening, caring for her flowers, oil painting, crocheting, and keeping her yard beautifully maintained. Together, Gail & Joe were able to build three homes by hand. She learned to install plumbing and electrical lines, hang drywall, run heavy equipment and even poured most of the cement in their current home. Her resilience and determination were virtues she carried all her life, having successfully battled breast cancer twice over two decades. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Sue Mott. Surviving are her husband, Joseph G. “Joe” Goodgasell of Gowen; their children, Amy & Scott Abbatoy of Rockford, and James & Lesley Goodgasell of Joplin, Missouri; eight dearly loved grandchildren, Kaitlyn Abbatoy, Samantha Abbatoy, Anna Goodgasell, Sara Goodgasell, Jana Goodgasell, Josie Goodgasell, Lacey Goodgasell, and Sophia Goodgasell; three brothers and a sister, Bill Wagner, Marilyn Williams, Jim Wagner, and John & Kim Wagner; sisters-in-law, Jackie & Henry Bancroft and LouAnn & Vaughn Littlefield; and several nieces and nephews. As Gail wished, cremation will take place and a celebration of her life is being planned for a later date.
