Frank Higgins

Frank E. Higgins, 82, of Turk Lake, formerly of Hemlock, passed away Tuesday morning, May 9, 2006. The son of Frank M. & Mary C. (Joynt) Higgins, he was born on April 2, 1924 in Hemlock. A proud veteran of World War II, Frank served with the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned to the Hemlock area and began a life long career in farming, in addition to working as a union pipefitter and welder with Local No. 85. Frank was a past master of Merrill Masonic Lodge No. 411 F&AM, a member of the Turk Lake United Methodist Church, enjoyed traveling, and wintering in Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Ann (Carson) Higgins on May 6, 1995; a son, Frank E. Higgins, Jr. on March 4, 2004; and a brother, Manley Higgins in February of 2004. On Nov. 1, 1996, at Turk Lake United Methodist Church, he married Shirley (Evans) Martin. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Higgins of Turk Lake; his children, Sue (Mark) Lauer of Midland, John Higgins of Freeland, Jim (Gail) Higgins of Hemlock, Jackie Jones of Belding, Michael (Sue) Russell of Ada, and Denise (David) Jacobsen of Greenville; special children and their families, Bill (Alice) Frollo of Hemlock, and Sune Karlgard of Stockholm, Sweden; a brother, Rev. Howard (Elouise) Higgins of Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Joshua, Nathan, Matthew, Jake, Amber, Shannon, John Jr., Austin, Christopher, Keena, Janice, and Allan; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
