Frank Hagadus

Frank Hagadus, age 96, of Stanton, formerly of Trufant, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at home. The son of Julianna (Push) & Frank Hagadus, Sr, he was born on April 28, 1916 in Saskatchewan, Canada, and was a decorated combat veteran of World War II. Staff Sgt. Hagadus served in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for valor, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge, as well as three bronze battle stars, the Philippine Liberation ribbon, and four overseas service bars. He had been a member of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville. On December 7, 1960, in Greenville, he married the former Violet May (Steele) Race and together they enjoyed nearly 41 years of marriage until Violet passed away on November 6, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Schofield; and three brothers, John Hagadus, Joe Hagadus, and Steve Hagadus. Frank retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company after 38 years of service and enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, and loved to be outdoors. Up until the age of 90, he walked 3-5 miles daily in the warmer months of the year. Surviving are his step-children, Herbert & Marge Race of Crystal, Dorothy Marcellus of Tennessee, Carl Race of Montana, Marilyn Beilfuss of Six Lakes, Julie Race of Crystal, Sharon & Carlo Spataro of Muskegon, and George & Mechell Race of Stanton; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
