Francis Awere

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Francis Awere, who departed this life on June 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was 76 years old. Francis was born in 1948 and was a pioneer student at Ghana National College, where he graduated in the late 50s. His early years were marked by a strong commitment to education and a drive for excellence traits that defined his entire life. Following his graduation, Francis embarked on a successful career as a merchant, establishing himself as a prominent and respected figure in his field. His business acumen and dedication not only brought him personal success but also contributed significantly to the communities he served. In pursuit of further education, Francis moved to the United States, where he spent the last 40 years of his life. He attended Sherman College and graduated in 1978 as a chiropractor. His new vocation allowed him to touch many lives, offering care and healing to his patients with the same dedication and compassion that characterized all his endeavors. Francis’ legacy is enriched by his deep love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Florence Awere, and their five daughters: Mavis, Zipporah, Sarah, Betty, and Lily. His family remembers him as a loving husband, a caring father, and a source of inspiration and strength to many grandchildren. Francis Awere’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his spirit and the values he imparted will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Friday, May 21, 2024, at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Avenue SE, Grand Rapids. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday with Rev. Dr. Mike Conklin officiating. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Francis was raised to a Master Mason on December 18, 1971, in Elmina Lodge #1534 (Grand Lodge of Scotland at Cape Coast, Ghana). He later transferred his membership to York Lodge #410 of Grand Rapids (Grand Lodge of Michigan) and then consolidated to Grand Rapids Lodge #34.
