Ionia

Obituary

Frances Bernadita Thomas, age 86 of Ionia, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at home following a long illness surrounded by those she loved. She was born on October 15, 1939 in Almaso, Colorado, the daughter of Glen and Eva (Sena) Moore both of whom preceded her in death. Frances and her family relocated to Michigan when she was eleven.

Frances married Levi Thomas of Ionia, Michigan on October 24, 1959. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends. There were blessed with four children: Cindy, Rose, Julie and Sandy.

Frances worked as a cook for many years before turning in her apron to do home health care. However, her biggest accomplishment was raising her family with the upmost unconditional love. Frances loved going to dances. She loved to travel and going on vacations. Frances loved going fishing with Levi and having family cookouts at the lake. One of her favorite things to do was going to fly in breakfast with her pilot/son-in- law, Doran.

Frances loved ink pens and if you didn’t watch out when she left your pen would go with her. Frances loved telling jokes, she had a great sense of humor, quick wit, and an overly generous nature. Frances loved spending time with her family and her coffee break friends.

Frances leaves behind her dear children, Rose Jaffas of Lowell, Julie Thomas of Ionia and Sandra (Christopher) Hale of Orleans. Her children gave her ten grandkids, Clark Fox, Renee Sidebotham, Francisa Acosta, Cassandra Acosta, Ashley Fisher, Jessica Doty, Andrew Thomas, Denver Hale, Mary Fox, Shauna Dennien; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
