Frances Miller

Mrs. Frances E. Miller, age 90, of Greenville, formerly of Jackson, passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 12, 2010 at Twin Oaks Retirement Home in Gowen. The daughter of Joseph L. & Florence Mae (Halter) Bolduc, she was born on March 19, 1920 in Jackson. After graduating from Jackson High School in 1938, she attended County Normal earning her teaching certificate. For 33 years she was an elementary school teacher for Jackson Public Schools, mainly teaching 4th and 5th grades. She earned her Bachelors degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1956 and had begun working towards her Masters degree at Michigan State University. On March 29, 1947, in Jackson, she married Paul B. Miller and together they enjoyed 46 years of marriage and raised one daughter. Frances had been a member of Arbor Grove Congregational Church in Jackson, and was a member of the Michigan Public Schools Employees Retirement System, the National Retired Teachers Association, and the Jackson County Association of Retired School Personnel. She enjoyed sewing, needlecrafts, and baking and was an avid reader. In order to be closer to their only daughter and her family, in 1992 she and Paul moved to Greenville where they were members of the First Congregational Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marguerite Hocking; her husband, Paul B. Miller on Dec. 26, 1993, and a niece, Hollace "Holly" Jabkiewicz. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Merrily & B.L. Rodee of Gowen; a grandson, Jesse Lee Rodee of Portage; a granddaughter, Rebecca Joelle Rodee, attending Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo; and two nieces, Alicia & Mark Huntoon of Jackson, and Beth Ann & Karl Jennings of Fort Gratiot. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the First Congregational Church, 126 E. Cass Street at Clay Street, downtown Greenville, with the Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. A luncheon will follow the service and burial will take place privately at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Jackson. Frances would have appreciated memorial contributions to the First Congregational Church (www.firstccog.org). The Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Greenville, is serving the family.
