Floyd Ronald Spencer, age 85, formerly of Greenville, Belding and Howard City, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at New Haven Assisted Living in Lakeview.
The son of Floyd Ishmael & Helen Marjorie (Kinne) Spencer, he was born on November 12, 1939, in Carson City. On May 12, 1962, in Ionia, he married Nancy E. Crater and they enjoyed nearly 57 years of marriage until she passed away on March 23, 2019.
A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Floyd served honorably with the United States Army where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal (twice!). Following his discharge from the Army, he continued to serve with the 1073rd National Guard unit in Greenville.
He retired from the Amway Corporation, where he worked as printing press crew leader, after 22 years of service. Together he and Nancy also operated Creekside Kennels, breeding and raising championship dogs. Floyd also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and delighted in spoiling his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy Spencer; and a brother, Tommy Spencer.
Surviving are his three children, Ron Spencer, Wil Spencer, and Dawn & Brian Arnold; eight grandchildren, Tia & Curtis LaCombe, Scott & Sadie Spencer, Meagan Spencer & Jeff Brace, Kevin & Jenny Kodat, Steve Kodat, Alex Arnold & Amber Eickenroth, Paige Arnold, and Taylor Arnold & George Rajah; 19 great-grandchildren with a 20th on the way; five great-great grandchild with the sixth on the way; three sisters, Carol & Bruce Schnepp, Joan Cottrell, and Elaine & Doug MacKellar; siblings-in-law, Joyce Finkhouse and Richard Crater; and many nieces and nephews.
Military honors, rendered jointly by the U.S. Army and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, are are at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Hough-Pontius Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3701, 506 S. Lincoln Avenue, Lakeview, with a celebration of Floyd's life following until 5:00 p.m.
