Floyd Austin

Floyd Marvin "Stub" Austin, age 85, of Greenville, passed away Saturday morning, May 25, 2013 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital in Greenville. The son of Elmer Lincoln & Grayce L. (Elkins) Austin, he was born on January 10, 1928 in Ionia. After graduating from Greenville High School, he began working at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company until being drafted into the U.S. Army. Floyd then served in occupied Japan, then in Korea where he earned a bronze battle star, and was a member of both the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 and the Cleveland-Wolverton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Greenville. He retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company and enjoyed birdwatching and watching all types of sports. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Irene Ruth Austin on Feb. 23, 1979; his second wife, Nancy Lee Austin on January 18, 2009; two sons, Andrew F. Austin on March 12, 2003 and Dave Allen on January 28, 2009; and a granddaughter, Jamie Allen in 1974. Surviving are his children, Julie & Bruce Liscombe of Crystal, Bob & Teri Austin of Belding, and Chris Allen of Greenville; a brother-in-law, Dr. Don & Arleen Allen of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Chad & Eiddie Allen of Gowen, Mandy & Shawn Ingersoll of Gowen, Josh & Rachel Liscombe of Virginia, Dustin & Jackie Austin of Kentucky, Casey & Dane Reed of California, and Merissa Liscombe, and her fiance B.J. Parrish, of South Carolina; four great grandchildren, Nicki Christensen, Ashton Ingersoll, Macy Ingersoll, and Layla Liscombe, with the fifth on the way; and three cousins, Donna Engeman of Grand Rapids, Lois & Don Howell of Ypsilanti, and Jim & Pat Elkins of Greenville. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Rev. Ken Harger, retired pastor of Shiloh Community Church, will officiate and burial, with full military honors, will follow at Ashley Cemetery.
