Ferris Johnson

Ferris Benjamin Johnson, Sr., age 81, of Gowen, passed away late Tuesday morning, January 4, 2022 at his home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of Felix Benjamin & Nora Mae (Dobbe) Johnson, he was born on July 21, 1940 in Greenville. After graduating from Greenville High School, Ferris enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served stateside during the Vietnam War era. He attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Markman's Badge. On December 19, 1964, in Alma, Michigan, he married Mary Ann Pawluczyk and together they raised five children and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Ferris retired from the former Electrolux Home Products, where he worked in quality control, and was a member of U.A.W. Local 137. He was a longtime member of Settlement Lutheran Church and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and camping with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Darlene Taylor; and two brothers, Robert Johnson, and Richard Johnson, Sr. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Johnson of Gowen; their children, Theresa Dickinson of Mattawan, Lisa & Jon Smidt of Peyton, Colorado, Ferris B. & Jennifer Johnson, Jr. of Hubbardston, Tammy & Rick Roy of Greenville, and Denise Hoppe of West Valley City, Utah; twelve grandchildren, Kaci & Travis Walker, Krista Dickinson, Amber & Orlando Montoya, Jonathan & Katelyn Smidt, Michael Johnson, Kaitlynn Johnson, McKayla Johnson, Marcus & Ashleigh Roy, Marissa & Michael O'Neill, Stephen & Dana Roy, Harrison Hoppe, and Jake Hoppe; eight great-grandchildren with three more expected later this year; a sister-in-law, Leona Johnson of Langston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation with the family is from 12-1 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Settlement Lutheran Church, 1031 Johnson Road, Gowen, where memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, with Pastor Betsy Kamphuis and Vicar Edward Ruble officiating. Military honors, rendered jointly by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101, will conclude the ceremonies and a luncheon will follow in the church hall.
