Faith Zitter

Faith Rebecca (Hocking) Zitter, age 84, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024. She was born July 21, 1940, in a small mud hut near Manaus, Brazil, to the late John Charlie and Martha (Lucas) Hocking who were missionaries at the time. Faith graduated from Wheaton Academy High School with the class of 1959. She then attended Baptist Bible Seminary and returned to Brazil to teach at the Missionary Children’s school in Fortaleza, Brazil. She met and married Jeova da Silva. They moved to the United States of America and had four boys; Marcio, Mathew, Michael and Joshua. She went on to further her education at Western Michigan University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Faith worked as a special education teacher for the Kalamazoo Public School System for many years. She loved music, her sons, and her grandchildren. Faith married Dale E. Zitter on December 21, 1996, in Fulton, Michigan. They celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary days before Dale passed away on December 30, 2020. Survivors include her four sons, Marcio and Stacey, Mathew and Christina, Michael, and Joshua and Holly da Silva; grandchildren, Issac and Ethan da Silva and Marcos and Simon da Silva; and brother, John Hocking and Simone Babcock. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and Faith’s remains will be buried with Dale at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Burial will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI. Please arrive at the cemetery between 12:45 p.m. and 12:55 p.m. and line up your vehicle in the Funeral Line located near the main entrance.
