Mrs. Eunice Helen Sovereign, 97 and 3/4 years old, of rural Cedar Springs, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 18, 2006 under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Michigan at her daughter Judys home near Pierson. The daughter of Harman D. & Lucy E. (Howard) Streeter, she was born on Dec. 3, 1908 in Cedar Springs. After graduating from Rockford High School, she worked as a telephone operator until marrying Herbert C. Sovereign on Dec. 19, 1934. Together, they raised four children and farmed over 100 acres in the Harvard area. She was a long-time member of Oakfield Baptist Church, was an avid reader (especially the Bible), and enjoyed puzzles. Eunice was looking forward to celebrating her 98th birthday, having already started hinting at birthday gifts. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert C. Sovereign on Oct. 26, 1977; a son, Jack Sovereign; and three brothers, Lloyd, Howard, and Glen Streeter. Surviving are her two daughters, Joan & Jack Cottrell of Muskegon, and Judith & Jake Sheber of Pierson; a son, James Sovereign of Newport; a daughter-in-law, Thelma Sovereign-Taylor of Cedar Springs; two sisters-in-law, Dagmar Streeter of Charlotte and Berniece Streeter-Parker of Grand Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 at Oakfield Baptist Church (corner of M-57 and Wabasis), Oakfield Township, with the Rev. Richard D. Whittenburg, pastor of Oakfield Baptist Church, officiating. Following the luncheon, burial will take place at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation is on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan will be available.
