Mr. Eugene A. Gotwalt, age 75, of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning, July 12, 2008 at home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Michigan. The son of Archie & Ida (Atkinson) Gotwalt, he was born on Jan. 24, 1933 at Fife Lake. Gene began working at the former Ranney Refrigerator Company in Greenville and on July 24, 1954, in Belding, he married Patricia Ann Sherwood. He later began working at Extruded Metals in Belding, retiring after nearly 30 years of service. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing, as well as playing softball and bowling. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Gotwalt; a sister-in-law, Arlene M. Gotwalt; a nephew, Jeffrey Jay Gotwalt; and a niece, Kathleen Marie Coville. Surviving are his wife of nearly 54 years, Pat Gotwalt of Greenville; their four children, Dick & Linda Gotwalt of Greenville, Teresa & Jim Parrott of Grand Rapids, Carol & Richard Johnson, and Brenda Gotwalt, all of Greenville; five grandchildren, Ryan Gotwalt, Jason Gotwalt, Jennie & Mike Musgrave, Stephanie & Doug Badge, and Jacob Gotwalt; eight great grandchildren, Mitchell, Stacy, Landon, and Trevor Badge, Ryelee Gotwalt, and Taylor, Christopher, and Katie Musgrave; five brothers, Gerald & Bonnie Gotwalt of Sidney, Gordon & Virginia Gotwalt of Greenville, Roger & Rita Gotwalt of Grattan; Wayne & Karie Gotwalt of Grand Rapids, and Ronald & Kay Gotwalt of Ludington; two sisters-in-law, Jean Reed of Greenville, and Linda & Larry Vernon of Bonita Springs, Florida; and many, many nieces and nephews. As Eugene wished, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan. The Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Greenville, was entrusted with the arrangements.
